What I'm Listening To: Expérgo by Nmixx
Last week, NMIXX released their first extended play "Expérgo". The mini album contains six songs, which doesn't seem very "extended" to most but seeing as their previous releases have all been singles or a maximum of two songs accompanied by the instrumental version, this is a very exciting step for the girl group.
The album starts with "Young, Dumb, Stupid" which can be described as your typical energetic pop song with a mix of hip hop and a sample of the classic children's song, "Frère Jacques". "Love Me Like This" is next, a hip-hop and R&B song whose lyrics "express the relation of people, who can love themselves and each other". "Paxxword" is a fun song, it has a "powerful and funky groove". "Just Did It" was definitely my favorite from the album, its lyrics are said to "express moments when things connect miraculously". "My Gosh" is a softer song that's supposed to be perfect or spring. I feel like I could totally hear this song playing in Kohl's or Macy's while I'm walking around. Finally, "Home" is considered a hybrid song that combines hip-hop and emotional rhythm.
Overall, I thought this was a great first extended release for NMIXX. I thought the album perfectly showcased the variety of styles they're able to cover while remaining consistent with their group's overall sound.
Every week whether through your blog or Twitter you're introducing me to a new K-pop artist/band :) I find the business and cultural reach of K-pop immense!
