What I'm Listening To: Teddy Bear by STAYC
I am a huge fan of STAYC, however, I felt like their latest single, "Teddy Bear", was geared toward a younger, more childish, audience. Their last few comebacks have been disappointing, unfortunately. With their strong debut song, "So Bad", and popular tracks like "ASAP", "Stereotype", and "RUN2U", "Teddy Bear" feels like a major step back.
The song itself is a sweet and bouncy electropop song which is typical for STAYC. However, the lyrics and overall flow of the song just don't feel like a STAYC hit. One article compared it to a jingle for Build-A-Bear, sure it's cute but it's not memorable which isn't good for a pop group.
The music video is a bit all over the place. Although I appreciate the pink, I can't quite grasp what they're going for. I know they're a younger group, but something about this video seemed a little too childlike for a group whose youngest member is 18.
Even though I'm disappointed with "Teddy Bear", I am hopeful that their next comeback will blow me away. Sometimes groups have songs that are skips, and that's okay.
Hi Maddie, great blog post! I had never heard of them before so I am glad that I got to hear their music. I do agree with you, the song’s lyrics are a little childish but overall still pleasant to listen to!! -Alice
