What I'm Listening To: TEMPTATION by TOMORROW X TOGETHER

Being an on-again, off-again, fan of TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT), I was a little hesitant to check out their latest comeback. "TEMPTATION" is their 5th mini album, released on January 27. Their management company, Big Hit Music, describes the album as "youth on the brink of adulthood. After experiencing conflict and chaos, the boys feel a desire to postpone their growth and linger in the freedom of Neverland. Their journey forward despite this desire is a representation of today’s generation as they continue to grow through the challenges of the world."

The style is completely different from their last few concepts. Their last few comebacks were more of a dark and "bad boy" style while "TEMPTATION" has more of a serene and almost "fairy-esque" feel. I think they execute both styles well, however, I think the prior style fits them better for a more mature style.

The title track, Sugar Rush Ride, starts off with a fun, almost summery beat. Once the chorus hits the beat switches up, in normal TXT fashion. Personally, I think the switch-up doesn't add to the song at all. I feel like throughout the song I got more and more confused. I had no clue where the song would go. To put it simply, I think this song is messy and just not my style. I wish they would've put more emphasis on the song Devil by the Window. I think this song is a great combination of TXT's talents. Overall, I feel like this album tries to appeal more to American-style pop music, it's not a bad thing, it just makes it sound like every other song on the radio right now.

  1. I know virtually nothing about K-pop, so I really enjoyed how you shared a good amount of background on the group. I had never heard of a mini-album before! Is this something that is specific to K-pop or do artists in other countries also make mini-albums? I loved the music video and agree, they hit the nail on the head when sticking to their theme of being on the brink of adulthood but wanting to stay whimsical and childlike.
